Course Overview

Program Description

The Construction Safety Officer (CSO) training program is delivered by Safety Central. This program will train students to ensure workers are following established policies and safety regulations of a job site. A Construction Safety Officer may take on additional roles and responsibilities, but their primary job is helping to create safer work sites.

They develop, implement, and enforce policies that reduce the risk of accidents. They will also determine what policies are needed and how they will be enforced. In this program communication skills are emphasized. Students will learn and practice the ability to record, track and communicate required statistics and due diligence evidence.

They will also learn to record site activities and produce reports capable of tracking person-hours, injury statistics, site orientations, accident investigations, safety meeting minutes, toolbox talks and risk assessments.

What Our Graduates Say

Hear from professionals who advanced their careers with our program

Steve was a very personable and thorough instructor. His lessons were well-paced, making the information easy to understand through the use of clear examples and supportive video content. Hands-on learning of safety equipment helped to clearly understand what to look for while completing inspections. I highly recommend advancing your knowledge and accreditation by taking the Construction Safety Officer course with Steve.

Stephen Gordy of Safety Central taught my Construction Safety Officer course back in summer of 2023. Included in the course syllabus were two, eight-hour classroom-led instruction segments on Fall Protection and Confined Space. Two separate wallet card certificates were provided for those, as well as a CSO wallet card certification; all laminated.

I really appreciated Stephen's instructional style. Not only is his knowledge of construction safety and all applicable WorkSafeBC regulations vast, he presented the material with a well-balanced mix of individual and group learning. He always had time to answer questions but kept things on track, allowed some time for questions to evolve into debate, but kept things on schedule. He had us do a mock Toolbox Talk and allowed a lot of freedom for creativity, which kept things light and enjoyable for everyone.

Perhaps the one aspect I am most grateful for from choosing Safety Central for my CSO training is Mr. Gordy's one-year mentorship that comes included with graduation. True to his word, Stephen always answered the phone (unless he was teaching a class) for the next twelve months. He also dropped by my first site a couple of times which I found very helpful.

I found work immediately after graduating from my CSO course at Safety Central and a year and a half later, after being laid off, Stephen put me in touch with my next employer.

CSO, OFA 3

I just wanted share my experience with Steve’s classes. About a year and a half ago, I attended his First Aid, Level 3, and CSO courses. Both classes were extremely informative and valuable.

Less than two weeks after completing the courses, I was able to find a related job with Steve’s guidance. I have now been working as a CSO for over a year, and throughout this entire time, whenever I had any work-related questions or challenges, Steve was always available and incredibly supportive.

I highly recommend taking these courses with Steve — it will definitely be a unique and worthwhile experience. I am truly grateful to Steve for his training and his encouragement, which I honestly feel played a big role in shaping my professional life here in Canada.

Thank you, Steve!
