How long is the CSO program?
The program is 2 weeks long, consisting of 10 training days (Monday to Friday) with 8 hours of instruction per day, totaling 80 hours of comprehensive training.
Is the certification recognized by ASTTBC?
Yes. Graduates receive a Construction Safety Officer certificate from Safety Central, and the program is recognized by the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC), allowing you to apply for provincial CSO designation.
What are the program fees and payment options?
Tuition is CAD $1,500 + GST with a 50% deposit due at registration. The balance is due 10 business days before the course begins. Payments can be made by credit card or e-transfer.
Do you offer refunds?
Deposits are non-refundable as they secure your seat. Balance payments may be refundable up to 10 business days before the start date. Please contact us for our full refund and deferral policy.
Is this online or in-person training?
The CSO program is delivered in person at our Burnaby campus, with occasional offerings in Surrey. Some preparatory materials are available online, but attendance is required for certification.
What are the prerequisites for enrollment?
Participants should be 19+, have a strong command of written and spoken English, and (recommended) one year of construction job-site experience.
Do I need previous safety training?
No prior safety training is required. The program starts with foundational legislation and builds to advanced risk-management techniques.
How do I register with ASTTBC after completing the course?
After receiving your certificate, apply through the ASTTBC registration process. ASTTBC lists Safety Central as a recognized CSO training provider and outlines how to submit your application and supporting documents.
What do construction safety officers do?
Construction safety officers ensure sites comply with applicable safety regulations and guidelines. They inspect sites to identify hazards and work with managers and crews to develop and implement safety plans. They may also provide worker training, investigate incidents, and ensure required safety equipment and PPE are available and used correctly.
How much does a construction safety officer make in BC?
